What is a census?

A census is the process of conducting a survey to find out the population and other demographic factors of a country. The information collected during this survey serves as a reference point for decision-making purposes, as it provides insights into the current state of the country’s population and economy. The information collected during a census can include details like age, sex, marital status, education, health, occupation, and household amenities. A census is conducted at regular intervals, usually every 10 years. The data collected during the census is used to create a statistical representation of all the inhabitants of a particular country. The census is also used to collect data on new settlements that may have emerged since the previous census.

Why is a Census Conducted?

A census is an important event for any country, as it provides an insight into how the country’s population has evolved since the last census, thereby allowing the government to plan for the future. The government can use the data collected during the census to understand the current state of the major socio-economic sectors, like health, education, and employment, and make informed decisions that can help improve the quality of life for its people. The census data can also be used to estimate future needs and requirements, as it provides an insight into the rate at which the population is growing. This information can be used to plan new and improved infrastructure, like housing and transportation, to cater to the needs of a growing population.
